The Monsters Under Her Bed

Made a Home Inside Her Head

As the day dreamer slept

Nightmares were awoken

Inside monsters crept

Upon all that was unspoken

They snaked through

Making sure not to disturb

As they injected venom into

Every single word

Burning their feelings

Into her skin

To send her reeling

Over and over again

They twisted a knot

Deep down inside

She would never undo it

No matter what she tried

How the creatures lurked

Faceless shadows they were

Still grinning as they worked

To incapacitate her

They surged through her veins

Seeping all the way in

Pumping in endless pain

So she could never win

Just as quietly as they invaded

Silently they departed

She awoke as the day did

Already broken-hearted
