Who will be at the water ceremony this morning? Will it be Kristen and the girls? Yes. The grandgirls and great-grandgirls plan to attend before they go to a powwow. Only one dances but they all love to watch the dancers.

The great Mississippi

is a beauty to see

The trees that are lining

the river are shining

~

The river was low on this day

In September of 2024, on a Sunday

The gathering was fun for everyone

We catch up with tales of our favorite one

~

The river brings awe to me

to see the beauty in the tree

the eagle on his favorite perch

sometimes it is a bit of a search

to find the eagle you see

I tried to capture the eagle and it didn't work but this is the tree. Authors photo.

It’s time for some birds to fly south

we have frost warnings for both

here and a few other places

It is flocks of birds, those flying aces

Birds flying South. Authors photo.

Our ceremony is to start with asema

There is a song sung in the four directions

Negoni, Negoni, Negoni asema…

Then there are other songs in our collections

~

The grandgirls didn’t make it

they stayed up too late and slept in

another time is what I said, I’ll sit

and pray for them as I picture their grin

The river today is beautiful

I took pictures as usual.

We had fun at the river

Even with a bit of a shiver

~

The temperature is dropping

and supposed to warm after frosting

Today was the first day of fall

It was bound to have a chill after all

~

Photos of the river today

Are not the same as yesterday

That is okay as we will never say

Oh, we will post this one anyway

Your pictures of the Mighty Mississippi River are beautiful. I see the delta of this mighty river and it's mostly brown and murky. Probably due to all the traffic on it. Good work on the story enjoyed it.

  • Your photos are sooo beautiful and I loved your poem as well!
