The Mirror

What are we waking up to? Are we even awake at all?
This must all just be a bad dream, a nightmare, it'll be over soon.
We were just in the fast lane, on cruise control for the past 20 years.
Happiness and prosperity were in full supply, and easy to maintain.
Success was effortless, with the ability to steer a course in our hands
We had the world by the tail, with promise tucked in our pockets.
Nothing was beyond our reach, everything was ours for the taking.
Excitement and exuberance, we were rewarded for the more we consumed.
But now...
We're on empty, with no off-ramp, or filling station in sight.
In front of us sits a cliff, the road, now swallowed by an abyss
Like the wildebeests of Africa, who are reluctantly up against the river.
Destiny and progress now compels us forward into the chaos & danger.
The weak and unfortunate, being pushed along, parish over the edge.
Desperation sets in, looking for help, a savior from our impending doom.
To our government, some look for the answers, and some for help.
While others, with suspicious minds, look to blame the marginalized
For all the problems in front of us that we now see.
We argue wether it's best to look Through woke or unwoke eyes.
Either way we seldom look in the right place for the answer who to blame.
