The Mind I Try to Calm

I am firmly stuck in another life inside my head

The Mind I Try to Calm

I wake to thoughts that press against my chest,

A tide that rises even when I breathe,

The quiet never settles into rest.

I try to hold the ache inside my nest,

Yet every hour pulls me underneath,

I wake to thoughts that press against my chest.

The mind repeats the worries I confessed,

A circle drawn too tight for quick relief,

The quiet never settles into rest.

I move through days and hope for something blessed,

A moment free from shadows at my teeth,

I wake to thoughts that press against my chest.

But still I walk, I give my heart its test,

I face the night though doubt works like a thief,

The quiet never settles into rest.

And even when my world feels dispossessed,

I try to rise and claim the light I seek,

I wake to thoughts that press against my chest,

The quiet never settles into rest.

Yes, it seems that a writer's mind never really shuts down, but one must know when it is time to shut down. Good job.

I hope you do actually get some rest though

This resonates so well with the form. The refrains really embody that nervous energy. Great job!
