The Mercy of War

And through the Treading Dawn

By Chris MaxwellPublished 6 years ago 1 min read

Through the mercy of war,

Running through fire and flame,

Though there were many more,

They kept running on,

Rushing through bullets through dawn,

Charging with guns of glory,

But not with feats of honor,

Running into battle poorly,

The day they shall stop charging,

To the mercy of war they say,

To the mercy of war

For the person beside you,

That to you don't know,

Fighting for freedom for peace from foe,

Given the time from rushing to fighting,

From peace to war is more than sighting,

Through the mercy of war they say,

Through the mercy of war

Some shall rise some shall fall,

When will they realize that isn't all,

Most shall hear the shell shock above,

Others shall see the old white dove,

To panic and flee is the last to be,

Running men is all they see,

From the mercy of war they say,

From the mercy of war

All men hide from friend or foe,

Tasting nothing but sword or so,

Giving in to the glory of God,

Taking in the flames of hell,

And no more shall they fight again,

Running from the face of victory,

And into the face of defeat,

No more from the mercy of war they say,

No more from the mercy of war.
