The Masks We Wear

A Poem from Alexandria -egypt

By MOHAMED HASSANPublished 4 months ago 1 min read
A woman in a blue cloak faces her truth in the mirror—surrounded by archived sorrow and distant shadows.”

The Masks We Wear –

This poem was written in Alexandria, where the sea listens to secrets and the walls carry archived emotions. It explores the masks we wear—between silence and pride, longing and denial. Though digital tools supported the process, every line was shaped by a human heart seeking to document truth beneath the surface. The attached image reflects the poem’s spirit: a woman facing her reflection, surrounded by scrolls of memory and shadows of self.

The Masks We Wear

We wear silence,

like a proud scarf

hiding a wound unhealed.

We smile at the absent,

as if we never waited

by the door of the heart.

We write poems,

not as confessions,

but as ornaments on pain’s wall.

We master disguise,

but the paper knows us

when we cry upon it.
