The Man on the Hill
For Poppy's Prompts #11: November Edition
The veil of twilight unhurriedly lifts.
The horizon simmers in gold.
The coppery scent of the maple trees
Whispers echoes from days of old.
*
Halcyon days of sweet innocence pass
In review through an aged mind
The shell of a robust man that once was
Mourns the youthfulness left behind.
*
While down in the grove, life savors the dawn,
The sunset of his life looms near.
Here on this hill, he feels only the chill
And the loss of all he held dear.

This one might be a touch um... downbeat? Maybe it's the time of year. There might be something on the lighter side coming, but who knows? Anyway, it's written for Poppy's Prompts #11, which everyone should write something for:

Certainly a sorrowfulness woven throughout, but very beautifully written! Especially liked “The coppery scent of the maple trees Whispers echoes from days of old.”
Not downbeat, Dana...just real life! Beautifully done and felt.
Wow! Such a insightful and intriguing poem Dana. Loved it!
This was so poignantly beautiful and I loved the melancholy here!
I'm a sucker for a good melancholic piece!! Loved this Dana!!
Beautiful imagery, you truly painted the scene.
Achingly beautiful though
Very well written
A touch downbeat sure, but poetically beautiful and reminiscent
