I remember the moment you took my breath away
It was scorching hot and sunny
You looked so cool standing there that midsummer day
You were just trying to make some money
The scent of honeysuckle heavy in the air
Wafting in through an open window
Silk robe hanging over the chair
My life had been in a state of limbo
Sliding out of the warm bed in my nightdress
Straight to the garden before the heat descended
Garden shoes and hair a mess
Working the soil until it was amended
You stopped by to sell me your service
A new entrepreneur in a suit
I could tell the sight of me made you nervous
Dirty hands and face with a bowl of fruit
I was Ill-prepared for that moment
Never saw you coming
Letting you leave forever, I would lament
The way I looked should have had you running
"Come on in and have a seat."
I washed my hands and poured some tea
You seemed more relaxed and even upbeat
Not me, though, wondering what might come to be
Why did I feel this way about a complete stranger?
My chest tightened and my face reddened
My heart was in danger
I knew without him, life as I knew it would end
I gained my composure and signed the purchase contract
A monthly visit to keep my grass green
I would have done anything to maintain contact
Next time I will look pretty and hopefully seen
My life will never be the same
The man in a suit is to blame
