The Love a Grandmother Shares Will Always Be Remembered
Memories of Nana
If I could sit and talk with you
for just another day,
I'd spend its time telling you,
you were the sunshine in my ray.
*
If I could enter heaven's gate,
feel the gentleness of your touch,
you'd know I thought the world of you
our time here was not enough.
*
I'd bring sweet potato pudding
baked on merry holidays.
It became my families favorite,
I stirred in the love of our yesterdays.
*
We'd reminisce, and infectious laughter
would again plaster smiles upon my face.
You were our four-eleven dynamo,
a woman with spunk and grace.
*
We'd joke about the times of
money slipped into my hand,
followed by a hush, our secret,
though Pop-Pop would understand.
*
I'd thank you for life lessons,
ones that can't be bought,
of generosity and kindness
buried deep inside my heart.
*
I'd tell you that I'm happy,
my life turned out okay,
turn to hug you tightly,
wishing you could stay

I wrote this poem to remember my grandmother, known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as Nana. She lives on in the memories of family, friends, and neighbors for her generosity, kindness, and spunk.
