The Lights Tremble

Day 29/365

By Ellie HoovsPublished 12 months ago 1 min read

It’s always the same,

every time the world shakes,

litotic in it’s desire to show it’s strength

fractures appear in the walls,

plates fall from cabinets and

crash

into a multitude of shards

on the wavering floor,

like a puddle of shimmering tear drops

flickering candle flames

are snuffed out

by waves of jostled molten wax.

the sea begins to swell in retreat

is it gathering courage? or running away?

the tectonic roar,

a vexed groan from the hollows of the earth

is caught in temporal snapshots

amid a harrowing lull.

the light trembles

the foundation cracks

from the strain of tenacious juddering

the trembling lights

eclipse

leaving only the dirt’s laments

and the dark
