The Lies of Sirens

Was it all a lie?

The shine of the morning dew beneath the summer sun

The happy chirping in the air, as the birds whimsically sing

Soft rainbows after the storms pass, and brighter days come

All of that I'd sacrifice for one more day in paradise

-

To feel the tingle of excitement as our fingers touch

And to see the blinding twinkle in the deep ocean of your eyes

Of time, it doesn't feel like it's been all that much

And a thousand years would be worth it for one more try

-

Like yesterday, that's how it feels in my heart

Like it was yesterday that this all began

So many memories have grown thick in that place I go to escape

Too many for me to hide within, and some I cannot find

-

Wish not that I would see you again, and quite the opposite, I should pray

For I know that is not the way to go if ever I'm to find my way out

Impossible to escape the chains of the past, anchoring me to yesterday

And all of the things your blinders made me not see

-

Sweet words like lullabies

The whispers from your lips

Were they all just spells carried through the winds

All just spells on the mystical voice of your siren song

-

Crashed onto the rocks of your beauty like sailors of old

Never knowing the lies of the sirens that have taken so many before

Were your words to have been followed by equally intoxicating deeds

Nothing of heaven or earth could have broken the bonds thought so strong

-

But sweet promises were all you brought to anchor a life to yours

Fulfill your selfish desires without ever being true

Hidden behind the face of an angel, the true face of a devil resides

Behind the lies of the siren was nothing of truth

-

The lies of the siren show such wonderful images to trick the minds

Behind them fly the hidden truths that only others can ever see

Left only to wonder why the siren chooses thee

And why the evil wench couldn't let you be without destroying your soul

-

Take not just a small part, the siren does

But with that vile and wretched beautiful song, she owns you

The siren knows of where you live and breathe, before she's done

Behind the lies of the siren, her wiles will destroy you

-

Yet it is the siren that, inside a man's sou,l he still desires

With what's left of him, he still craves her insidiousness

Behind the lies of the siren's song lies something even sadder

There lie the ones the sirens forever changed

-

Run from the siren's song

Run hard and fast until it's heard no more

For once, you feel the song within you

Behind the lies of the siren, you're facing an eternity not of your making

-

Behind the lies of the siren's sweet song

All that remains is a poisonous image not for thee

Behind the lies of the sirens

Lie the chains of the unfree

-

Behind the lies of the siren's song

That's where you'll find the unfree

Once great and filled with potential

Trying to find a paradise that can never be

The only siren songs I've ever heard were for fire trucks, ambulances & police cars. Waiting for them to pass before returning home, only finding out later they were heading to the accident that claimed our son's life along with that of a friend.
