The Joy of Repurposing Things

Even an old shirt can be reused in other forms

A beautiful shirt

red cardinals perched,

on willow twigs,

in white snowy backdrop,

that I wore for years,

shrank, time to discard

to say goodbye.

I don’t like donating old clothes,

for I am not sure of its fate,

I prefer repurposing,

for I am resourceful enough.

So, I made framed art from it,

which graces the bathroom,

looks aesthetic.

Another part became a mask,

which I wore all along

the years of pandemic,

even now,

while folding laundry.

I find peace in

reduce, reuse, recycle

do you?

I used to make the holiday decorations using scrap clothing. Don't make much anymore, but my youngest does so now. She is 18
