Taught to me by my rabbits.

Life is truly amazing

So I learnt from my pet rabbits,

I watched and learnt from day to day

And studied all their habits.

You can imagine my surprise

To walk out and find,

A tiny little newborn

Was she pregnant all that time?

The poor little thing

Laying in the cold,

Found a pile of fur at one end

Put him in it’s warm fold.

Well I was thrilled to find

Five more little ones,

I felt so proud of Nicki and Smokie

For the wonderful job they’d done.

Half a dozen in all

But I’m sorry to say,

Of all the little ones

Three passed away.

By Nick Fewings on Unsplash

But the three that are left

Are now eleven days old,

Three cute baby rabbits

All so tiny to hold.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
