The Insomniac Is Back

Nonsense Returns

An eerie silence filled the house

the wind tugged at the sills

She clenched the buttons on her blouse

to ward off evening's chills

It howled and whistled, pressing hard

the door began to jingle

Mother Nature's calling card

made her spine begin to tingle

He never moved, not ne’er an inch

his form was made of stone

She gave his skin a gentle pinch

feeling more and more alone

The kettle called, whistled a tune

dinner wafted through the air

The clouds made faces at the moon

as she tucked away her hair

The dog lay quiet, by the fire

soaking up the heat

The storms fury, roaring higher

as he dreams, kicking his feet

The embers pop and crackle

there are footsteps at the door

She hears a frightful cackle

as her man, begins to snore

Her heart is racing, like a train

she hides, beneath the covers

A warm sensation fills her brain

distant thoughts, of long lost lovers

Crazy are the antics

of the lonely and forgotten

May be pure semantics

but the apples core, is rotten

Time for help and seriousness

have long since, left the building

Much like talk of Elvis

the power of proof, is in the pudding

Enough of foolish rhyme

it is time to go to sleep

Thank you for your time

now go away- I’m counting sheep

humor
