In the forest in the gentle morning

The orioles and robins greeted the day

The quick brown fox, panting in fear

Smelled the hounds in pursuit not far away.

The hunters crouched over their saddles

Urging their steeds into feverish speed

The hounds cried, "He's over here, over here!"

And the dogs took the maddening lead.

The fox put his fear aside

And plotted his path to get away

The scent of the men on horseback

Meant food would wait another day.

The circle was closing with the fox within

The hounds, sensing the hunt's conclusion,

Drooled and bayed in anticipation

the fox slipped through the circle in the confusion.

The men in red cursed at their dogs

As they assessed the failure of their quest

The fox laughed and ran away

still alive, he followed the sun as it headed west.
