The Hum of the Martian

In April 2021, the tiny Ingenuity helicopter flew on Mars, becoming the first powered aircraft to fly on another planet. The hum of Ingenuity’s blades could be heard from the microphone on the Perseverance rover.

My Momma’s hum defied gravity,

caught me mid-orbit to call me in.

Black hole beckoning the satellite.

Sweet symphony of the galaxy.

Humming - the space between

busy hands and a Milky Way mind.

I could linger in the atmosphere

outside this kitchen forever,

listening for the hum of Ingenuity,

watching for the maiden flight,

waiting for the stars on Mars

to decorate this house.
