fawn cut-pile carpet cushions gold oak coffee table
white eyelet curtains flaked revealing murky lake bottom
waterline drawn on windowpane above rocks
smothered in emerald moss and seaweed slime

copper hair twisted into a low ponytail auditioning for Belle
her polite applause rains down and I sink into its cold puddle
I beat my limbs through liquid drag, spitting and crying salt,
heaving my arm up towards a green tiled roof swaying above a rolling jade wave…
