Shadow Parts

So many people seem afraid

To discuss the dark parts, their pain.

Rather stay put in the shade then

Bring to light any carried shame.

-

A white picket fence keeps secrets

Within the home, that weigh the boards

To break beneath.

-

Am I, then, so odd to wear mine

Upon my sleeve

for all to see?

-

I won’t utter that “I’m fine,”

And label that resiliency.

-

I’ve never personally known a

Masquerade to last more than one

Eve, so when the sun shines again

We’ll still reveal our shadows.
