The Height of Life

A Shakespearean sonnet

By Raquel MendesPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

In time to show the growth of life complete ,

The rays of summer’s sun come through to all.

The winter gloom my heart turns obsolete ;

The spring’s sweet buds no longer us enthrall .

The sun has reached out for a close embrace,

But so does scorch what earth has no protection .

The waters learn to seep the cloud’s slow pace

And storms destroy what branches lost direction .

I will not cool the air inside my dwelling ,

For sweat will clean the skin of all my pains :

The salty musk persuades of love, compelling

Renewed unbridled joy to flush my veins.

Just so my focus skews from death and strife ,

The heat comes forth to gleam the height of life .
