The Heart Rewrites the Mind

By Tom Molz

The heart rewrites the mind

I remember you

Backlit

Shimmering monochrome beauty

Beckoning me in

Vicarious, lively, aura

Unmissable and unforgettable

Black hole hair siphoning light

Darker than the nights

I spend without you

The heart rewrites the mind

You welcomed me and said “nice set”

Remembering my name after we met

Could only mean

I was cute enough to not forget

My search to know

Where I was supposed to go

Led me to the baddest bitch in the city

An adorable dork

Who doesn’t eat pork

Embarrassing longing

Not even rhyming

The heart blinds

The mind

Winter tries to siphon

My heat

But my heart has doubled

Its beat

Better not ruin

What I haven’t even started

As I realize where I want

To be

Heat lamp focus

Hocus Pocus

Plays in the background

Of our shared passion

What else will we share?

The mind rewrites the heart

I am too proud of how I feel

To shame my thoughts away

I said what I said and I meant it too

There aren’t many out there

Who control a room quite like you

sad poetry
