Of Forgiveness

My enemies lit the fire

When I was down on my luck

An all exposing pyre

To hinder my getting up

I sat consumed in flame

Letting it singe every part

Acknowledging the blame

That had shadowed my heart

In tears, I watched friends walk away

Extinguishing the spark

Shedding the shame and saving face

Leaving me in their dark

All alone, I faced my demons

As they danced in the flames

Begging me to join them

As they screamed out my name

As a sacrifice of ash

Wearing my penance around

I await my death line dash

To be presented my crown

Very nice, Kelli. It bounces along very nicely.

We all make choices what are in our lives and if some do something that goes against us well your poem tells. Good job.

Well-wrought! All too often have I found that those who most egregiously offend us expect forgiveness to renew the relation, but were they truly self-aware, they would simply go their separate way in peace and utilize reason to adjudicate any shared interest that might require crossed paths in the future. Just my thoughts on the matter as I read your poem.
