The Harbinger’s Lullaby

A Journey into the Darkest Corners of Fear

By Jason “Jay” BenskinPublished about a year ago 2 min read

In shadows deep where phantoms creep,

A specter stirs, the lost souls weep.

With hollow eyes like pits of despair,

He beckons softly,

“No one will care.”

-

Beneath the pale, sickly moon's ghastly glow,

The night winds howl, drenched in sorrow’s flow.

A chilling breeze carries a name from the grave,

The harbinger calls, igniting the flame.

-

He lingers close, with a grin of decay,

In corners dark where the lost drift away.

“Come dance with me in the veil of dread,

Where joy is devoured and hope lies dead.”

-

His fingers stretch long as the shadows entwine,

With each gentle touch, he fractures the line.

“Close your eyes, let nightmares take flight,

For I am the dark that extinguishes light.”

-

In fields of sorrow, innocence dies,

The laughter of children echoes like lies.

A lullaby sung in a voice like ice,

To cradle you softly, a cruel sacrifice.

-

“Come closer now, feel the chill of the grave,

Let me wrap you in silence, the fate of the brave.

For in my embrace, your heartbeat will cease,

And I’ll take your spirit, granting you peace.”

No dawn shall break on this endless night,

Where shadows consume what’s left of your fight.

So heed the call, but do not stray,

For the harbinger waits—forever to stay.

-

With every heartbeat, he feasts on your fears,

As you tremble and twist, drowning in tears.

And when you awaken, with dread in your chest,

Know the harbinger whispers—there is no rest.

-

He dwells in the echoes of each silent scream,

In the spaces between what was once a dream.

So share your secrets, but trust not your breath,

For he is the promise of inevitable death.

-

In the depths of despair, where shadows conspire,

He dances with glee as he feeds on the fire.

For each soul he claims, a story must die,

And in the heart of the night, your dreams say goodbye.

-

In the stillness, he watches with a predator's gaze,

Each heartbeat a countdown to your darkest days.

And when the sun fades, swallowed by night,

The harbinger beckons—prepare for your fright.

    Such a cool poem.

  • The Harbinger's Lullaby is a reflection on the interplay of light and darkness in our lives. As I penned this poem, I was inspired by the quiet moments of introspection that often lead to profound realizations. The harbinger symbolizes change—sometimes welcomed, sometimes feared—and the lullaby serves as a reminder that amidst uncertainty, there is beauty to be found in the stillness. I invite you to immerse yourself in this piece and consider the transitions in your own life. What whispers of change are you hearing? May this poem resonate with your journey and inspire contemplation. Thank you for reading! Jason
