The Greatest Puppeteer

Spoken word poetry

By River SeearPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

They say we've come far

From the dust of a star

To "the civilized world"

As it's often referred

Now I'll have to disagree

With such a misguided decree

As far as I can see

We're a long way from free

Our self proclaimed evolution

Its an illusion

We've been put in a mold

Suppressed and controlled

In shame we hide

Parts of us denied

The lies we're spoon fed

Fill up our head

Bury truth like the dead

And keep us misled

Embedded in the infrastructure

Of our exalted culture

Hides the message of Fear

The greatest puppeteer

Thoughts like wildfire

Never taught to inquire

Sow ideas as seeds

Growing hate like disease

Soldiers we become, belligerent

To anyone a little bit different

Even our own blood

We've compared and judged

Children rejected by their mothers

Cast off as "the others"

In fear we have damned

What we don't understand

As we follow the command

Ignorantly we demand

Conformity to the majority

Self imposed superiority

Giving rise to brutality

Over someone's sexuality

To me it seems insane

To call love profane

Yet we hate each other

For loving another

Now I try not to complain

Through their bitter disdain

Some hope still remains

That one day, love reigns

So pardon my intrusion

On this cultural delusion

But in my disillusion

I cry out for inclusion

Individuality is not a personality trait

Your uniqueness, innate

So its 2022

And we still haven't a clue

Years of bias accrued

There's a lot to undo

But if we bridge the divide

Our defences will subside

Our fear we can face

Our deepest pain, embrace

Offering each other grace

We make the world a better place
