Like the grandest of trees
I was once but a seed
I sprouted and grew
Intrinsically I knew how to
From a fetal curl
Tiny threads unfurled
Rippling through the earth
In blind knowing that a solid foundation was key
To the me I’d strive to be
Always the over achiever
The dreamer
A believer
Forever craving light
Reaching with all my might
But never quite
An ever slight blight
The power of ‘right’
My kryptonite
I’d fail to keep the night
From calling and falling
And oh how I fell
And fell
And fell
Despite a trunk as strong as brick
Bark thick
Branches chic
My used up tired leaves still shed
Like limp little limbs lulled in slow motion dread
To die and decay
How I begged them to stay
Just one more day
Please!
One
More
Day?!
But as I grieved, I still grew and gradually I knew… it’s okay
The seasons, the cycles, the ebs and the flows
They come and they go
They stay and delay
Inevitably the darkness fades and the sun makes for a new day
Nourished by the way
I learned to let go
Stand tall
Remain grounded
Deeply rooted in the very essence of me
Like the grandest of trees
