The Grandchildren Around Father's Day

Time spent with 4 grands since Thursday

Spending time with grandchildren can be like riding a ferris wheel

or even a roller coaster. Some may need some time to heal

while others can’t get enough go-kart and dirt bike riding in

and another has a very thoughtful gift for her grandfather, a win!

~

Then the time with the oldest one of the 4 is almost like eating a lime

And a few more grands a bit younger in a few days' time

The next oldest spends most of his time on a game with friends

when they get to be teenagers, exclusive time with grandparents ends.

~

They do love the go-kart, the dirt bike, 4-wheeler, shooting range

This is when the younger ones can hang with the teen too, a change

They have fun with their grandpa and Grandma gets time alone

Grandma takes some time with friends and family on the phone.

~

We went to spend time at the swimming pool. I saw our youngest, so cool

as she was taking a break from kids, but still close. She is PG, in grad school

She is working, taking care of a couple of kids, and in an internship.

She sure does need a break and sometimes she takes a trip.

~

It was Father's Day, we loved having them around, and they took us out

Her father picked the place and he chose Culvers, I wanted to shout

It was okay as it wasn’t his favorite Dairy Queen. And his next favorite

White Castle. When it is my turn there are some nice places, that is right

~

Don’t get me wrong about the Grands, we love our time with them

The pandemic felt like we had such little time. We will take the mayhem.

Grandpa got a sign, “Retired but working part-time as a pain in the butt!”

He got phone calls from others and a mug that turns colors with what?

Candy kisses. Then a few real kisses from the missus!

Good work and there is nothing like spending time with the younger generations.

  • Hahahaha looks like you guys had a fun time! Loved your poem!

  • I love the way you have written this Denise, and yes my grandkids are still very young, but Grandad gets more attention than me and their mum!
