The Golden Thirteen

Systemic Racism

By Earl W. PearlPublished about 2 hours ago 1 min read

Imagine how shocking, imagine the looks

When Blacks became officers too

Since Blacks in the Service were drivers and cooks

Well, what would the racists now do

The First Lady lobbied for radical change

That a Negro could serve like the rest

So when she submitted this policy, strange

The Navy concocted a “test”

They had to ensure that Black confidence sank

Cutting time for their training in half

How could one’s color determine one’s rank

The Navy responds with a laugh

Long before Negroes achieved any rights

The system was rigged so they’d fail

An officer’s training was double for Whites

And that’s why I’m sharing this tale

When all sixteen passed, there were three left behind

Thus keeping the “pass rate,” the norm

The pass rate for this group unfairly “designed”

The racists held true to their form

inspirational
