The Glow of Home
The glow of home in a different light

The day is now no longer,
So I let tears fill my eyes,
I want no one to remind me,
Morning’s sun is sure to rise.
As I look into my lantern,
The orange glow’s not bright
But enough to fill my darkened room
all through the darkest nights.
In the lantern I see my home,
The place my roots run deep
The grass and fields we ran through,
Childish memories that they keep.
I see in there my people,
The ones that held my hand,
The beaches that I played on,
Where I made castles in the sand
The western waves I swam in,
The ones that wait for me,
The ones I’d give my life,
To touch, to feel, to even see
The people where I come from,
The ones that caught my tears
The ones that bought me sweeties,
Gave me money,
Sneaked me beers.
I hear the language of our land
It echos through the sky,
While I sit here in torture,
watch my own life pass me by.
Would I have given up,
If I’d seen what was to come,
I’ve learnt out here the hard way,
luck will only favour some .
But the dreams are cutting short now,
It’s morning so I know,
The blinding lights of the ward
Will drown my Lantern’s glow
