Disappointment struck me like a bolt of lightning,
As I stood there with my new glasses, squinting,
Unsure of what to make of this new change,
Glasses that I had chosen for fashion, not range.
I had always prided myself on my clear vision,
But now it seemed I had made a wrong decision,
As the world appeared blurry and out of focus,
And I couldn't help feeling a little hopeless.
But as the days went by, something strange occurred,
I began to see things I'd never seen before,
The beauty of the world in its every detail,
From the colors of the leaves to the patterns on a snail.
I realized then that my mistake had been grand,
For the glasses that I wore had helped me understand,
The world in ways I never thought possible,
And opened my eyes to things that were once invisible.
I remember the day I walked through the park,
And saw a family of ducks swimming in the dark,
Their feathers glistening in the setting sun,
And I felt a sense of wonder I had never known.
Then there was the time I saw a couple in love,
Holding hands and walking under the stars above,
Their laughter and joy infectious and pure,
And I knew that my glasses had opened a new door.
I began to see beauty in the smallest of things,
Like the dew on the grass or the way a bird sings,
And I felt grateful for my mistake of spectacle,
For it had given me a gift that was immeasurable.
One day I was walking down the street,
And I saw an old man with a friendly greet,
He told me his name was Mr. Smith,
And that he had a story that was worth a myth.
He said that when he was young, he lost his sight,
And for years he lived in a world of darkened light,
But then he got a pair of glasses that changed his life,
And he saw the world in a new and beautiful sight.
And I knew then that my mistake had not been in vain,
For it had given me a gift that I could not explain,
And I felt grateful for the glasses that I wore,
For they had opened a window to a world I'd ignored.
Now I wear my glasses with pride and with joy,
And I see the world in ways that I could never deploy,
And I know that my mistake was a blessing in disguise,
For it opened my eyes to a world beyond my own lies.
And so I urge you, dear reader, to take a chance,
And see the world through a different glance,
For you never know what beauty you might find,
In the small moments that can change your mind.
As I close this poem, I think of all the random scenes,
Of people and places and the things in between,
And I know that my glasses have brought me to this place,
A place where the beauty of the world I can embrace.
