The Glass Frog

W4

By James GreenPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

In a world quite strange and new

Lived a frog with a stomach that shone through

He hopped here and there, with no care or woe

His see-through gut, a fascinating show

Through the fields he'd leap, over streams and rocks

His insides visible, like reading a clock

The other frogs, they'd stare in surprise

But he'd just croak, with twinkling eyes

One day he met a beetle, fair and small

Who said "I know a secret, that'll make you tall"

"A potion, dear frog, that'll change your fate

You'll no longer be transparent, it's quite great!"

The frog was sceptical, but also intrigued

He thought of all the benefits, his spirits cheered

So, he drank the potion, and waited with glee

For the change, that would set him free

But as the days passed, he began to see

The potion was a trick, a cruel treachery

He was no longer see-through, but that was not all

He had lost the thing that made him stand tall

His insides now hidden, like everyone

He felt like a fraud, like a counterfeit

He longed for the days, when he was unique

But alas, those days were gone, and would not come back fleet

The moral of the story, is not to desire

What makes you different, makes you a shining fire

For in trying to fit, you'll lose the true you

And be left with nothing, but a feeling of blue
