The Glamorous Hunger Games.

I made bold financial choices
translation: I bought things I didn’t need
and now the fridge is a minimalist art piece
a single echo living in stainless steel.

Breakfast is black coffee
lunch is black coffee
dinner is
let me guess
black coffee.

My tea has gone extinct
the white leaves all perished
and vinegar has stepped in
as my new sparkling wine substitute.

Yes, in seven days I’ll emerge
slim as a whispered rumor
hotter than the temptation aisle at Aldi
a walking success story
of famine chic.

But no one will know
that my body is a democracy
overruled by my wallet
and that beauty hurts
mostly in the stomach.

So here’s to bad money management
and the compulsory diet plan
bankruptcy couture
by necessity only.

I love how you’ve taken the heaviness of financial strain and turned it into biting humour.

  • Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope you get to buy some real food soon 🥺

  • True depiction of what we feel when we diet!. Used to drink that brand of cider in your pic. It was a challenge!

How is your poetry so crisp? Every line practically crackles. I really appreciate the simultaneous agreement and contrast of supposed opposites here— fashion and poverty. If this poem is true to life, then I hope your wallet rebounds soon
