The Gift of a Garden

Growing food and sharing is joyful

I go to the market

for grocery shopping,

food prices are high,

quality is not guaranteed,

but thinning wallet is.

It's disappointing,

but to my relief,

I have a backyard garden

that keeps on giving.

I get a large variety,

of seasonal vegetables

arugula, nasturtium, kale,

mustard, mint

spring onion, lambs quarter.

all fresh, organic.

I don’t want to dismiss

this privilege.

I don’t expect gift

from anybody

but look for people to share,

this healthy bounty.

I take the garden goodies,

to drop in neighbor porches.

My persistent dream

for a backyard garden

was for the right reason.
