The ghosts of empty hallways

Tonight in an empty mall,

the ghost will come to life

they tell us stories recklessly

about Odysseus and his wife

they fly through empty hallways

to discover their once-living soul

they cheer at death to remind us

that death comes to us all

hidden behind a eucalyptus tree

a secret scene takes place

the dead they kiss,

they fall in love

They mourn what it is that’s remains

From a life that was lifted unfulfilled

from dreaming all in vain

Another ghost, my former boss

tries his best to fit

his head into a diamond box

to claim it all as his

behind the never-ending dome

a pyramid sculptor hides

he knows the plans of death

he quotes them every night

he learned then more than a thousand years ago

for a now long-dead pharaoh

who made a point in choosing him

to serve forever on his side

death comes seldom peacefully

we haven’t got the time

behind the broken caravan

the yellow pigeons fly

it all comes down so easily,

a revolution caught in time

as the late-night settles in

the ghosts go back to bed

the death they do not live sleep-deprived

they settle for dreaming instead

surreal poetry
