The Ghost of You

A poem

By Rasma RaistersPublished 9 months ago 1 min read

Isn’t it always that way?

Time flows by

and you never know why –

the many loves of your life still haunt your mind.

*

At the age of ten,

you’re still in Mickey Mouse land,

you think that life is grand,

then daddy dies

and you wonder why.

Never got to say goodbye,

never said that last I love you

and now after all these years –

Daddy the ghost of you haunts me still.

*

Lost some special friends,

along the way,

funny how they all got in my heart,

leaving behind a trace,

of the friendship and the love,

the ghost of them still near,

can close my eyes and memories,

bring back the old times –

while favorite songs still play in my mind.

*

After all the years,

gone by,

thoughts of you still refrain,

your voice, your smile,

the ghost of you,

still here beside me,

you were the last,

my one true love,

my soul mate

and I know =

some day the ghost of you will be waiting for me.

*

So let life flow on,

let the waves of the sea soothe me,

each sunrise and sunset I know,

the passing years,

bring me closer to you,

as I walk through this life –

holding on to the hand of the ghost of you.
