The Generation Connection
A Poem on Digital and Generation Connections
Patience bridges generational divides.-Michelle Liew
This Lunar New Year, we think about connecting - really connecting - with relatives across divides, especially digital and generational ones.
*******************************************
Face
Frowning
He taps once
The screen blinks.
“Teach me how it works,”
Grandpa says, his hands unsure, slow.
*******************************************
Young
Tim sighs,
Hands click fast
His wise eyes rolling.
“Look, it’s very easy grandpa.”
But the older man still has confusion on his face.
****************************************************
“Boy,
Why this?
Why not real letters?
Why not put your pen to paper?”
**************************************************************
“This
is quicker,
Gets things done
Faster than writing
Letters on pieces of paper.”
**********************************************************
“Look!”
Over here."
He clicks fast,
And touches the screen.
“You see? A phone connects us all.”
*********************************************
The
Old man
Smiles in awe,
Taps the Gmail icon-
A real connection.
