The Funambulist

An acrostic poem

Delicate--this

Inertial state of being;

Standing high, my wooden feathers

Tethered only to my heart's intrepid beating...(a)

Raconteur you are, dear wind, (you are)

A spirit of the weather--so deceiving--(and dear God, I swear that I)

Can almost touch the ceiling, but

Trust--between us, dearest wind--has cultivated such grave issues, &

Instinctively (I know this game)

Of gravity jujitsu doesn't favor me... (and if I should)

Neglect my concentration (for a moment) just to kiss you I will surely fall again--and my cycle of self-sabotage (my lovely, dearest wind) will only just continue.

A unique perspective to put you in in their shoes! 🙌✨☺️ I think we are all getting an English lit education with these new words! 😆

I've always been in awe of funambulists. I remember going to the circus when I was a kid, and it was always the highlight of the shows. Great poem, as always, Gina!

I never knew what a Funambulist was until now! And you, my friend, are a raconteur of dream-like tales! This was another beautiful entry! You've blown me away with each of your acrostics in this challenge, Gina! Seriously beautiful stuff! And that last line, like Dharrsh said, brings this all together! Just "chef's kiss" is all the mumbling I can add!

  • A Somnambulist is a person who sleepwalks so I kinda figured that Funambulist would be some kinda walker too but never expected a tightrope walker. I think my favourite part of this poem is your last line. We lose ourselves in the midst of loving someone and it's a vicious cycle of self sabotage. Loved your poem Gina!

Isn’t this the life we live, the tightrope requiring perfect balance of all things, our desires, our goals, our loves, our families… the wind, gravity, both unseeable but very a very real force? Yet, you find the artful dance, the intricate weaving of life. The overwhelming alliteration brings this into reality so beautifully. Well done my dear and gifted friend. 🥰❤️ The collection grows.

  • You got this style down. Amazing work Gina these are phenomenal

Oh, I so love this series, Gina. Seriously, this is so beautiful and clever. I can definitely relate to these feelings. Beautifully and delicately put. ❤️❤️❤️

  • I fell for this the moment I started reading it. (I have enough difficulty walking on level ground without falling down. A tightrope? Fuggedaboutit.)

This is so pretty. I also love the picture.......butterflies are my favorite insect...and the poem and image work so well together. Marvelous work.

Fantastic Gina! The cadence flows so well with the message. I agree with Misty, I enjoy the glossary at the end as well.

I love this! I do have to admit I also really love that you put a glossary at the end. ;)

Love the struggle between the freedom of the wind and the possibility of falling right back into the chaos you're trying to rise above. Fabulous piece, as always.

So beautiful. The description of the tightrope walker’s concentration being potentially tricked by the wind, is sublime. I love imagining such a relationship between a person and the wind; it’s a strangely romantic one, but also whimsical. I was reminded of a book series, The Kingkiller Chronicles, while reading. The protagonist is obsessed with the magic of naming and seeks to learn the name of the wind. I love this concept, and am happy to see it in other works! Thank you for giving my mind a lovely break, if only for a minute or two. 💜💜🍃
