The First Snow Saturday of the Year

Just Enough Snow to Report

An inch of snow on the ground; the dog

goes outside and breaks the clean

sheet of white with a dollop of yellow.

___

Tiny snow particles fall from the sky;

the lake's waves roar as they try

to hide from freezing temperatures.

___

Listening to Incubus' song,

"Aqueous Transmission", I immediately

recognize

Brandon Boyd's voice, it's always

been an anthem

of attraction. I don't know how

a voice can be so hypnotically

yummy on the ears.

But I don't recognize this song;

I'm surprised it's from 2001.

This song is a meditative

masterpiece. It's a gorgeous

blending of instrumental

and vocal tracks. The lyrics

"I'm floating down a river"

go down my ears like milk

and honey. Did I really

not pay attention

to this song

from Morning View?

Snow is on the ground.

The heater is on high.

Both cats sit near me

as I sit cross-legged

on the couch

writing poems

and considering

the possibilities

in a pandemic winter.

A couple more weeks

and the Chinese New Year

will usher in

the Year of the Tiger.
