The Fireworks That Night

A Sonnet.

I sat alone with feelings of regret,

Choked on the words I said before your flight.

Our summer crush I wish I could forget,

Possessed by something in the air last night.

Confessions said to heal but this one hurts;

One shot was all it took for you to see,

Ignore the head and thoughts of you get worse,

Profess, protest, protect, the heart that beats;

As cheers ring out, the sparks between us shine;

August wave of heat brings me back 'round.

The tension envies every passer by,

We float in hope, in silent fear I drown.

The rain it came in time for no mistakes,

Drenched in the hope of love, pain and heartache.
