The Fear in the Mirror

A reflective poem

Fear disguised as Shame

But why, how

Where did it linger from, where does it haunt,

in the crooks and corners

Pray tell why

I’ve fallen prey to

Shame

Can you be confident and ashamed simultaneously

Is it gender dysphoria

Is it body image

Is it vulnerability

Is it anyone’s business though

Is it trust

Or lack of

Or is it

Wanting to keep something mine

Where it’s private and unseen by others

Is it control

Is it power

Is it fear

But of what

It’s uncomfortable

But what’s wrong with that

What’s wrong with

Being uncomfortable

Isn’t that how we grow

What part is ashamed though

Why is it hiding buried under years and years

When did it start

Think back

What happened

Thank you for taking the time to read my poetry. This poem is both the beginning and the middle of me processing and coming to understand my relationship with my body.
