The Faithful Companion: Regret

A Chronicle of What Never Came to Be

By Mansoor AfaqPublished about a month ago 1 min read
Regret

My heart still guards the wishes that could never stay,

Regret keeps whispering where the lost dreams fall,

And longing walks beside me night and day.

I begged desire to leave, to fade away,

But it returns each time I try to stall;

My heart still guards the wishes that could never stay.

Your absence bends the hours into decay,

Yet hope insists to answer every call,

And longing walks beside me night and day.

Even death could not persuade my love to sway;

It clings to dust and breathes beneath the pall

My heart still guards the wishes that could never stay.

The cupboard of remorse hides dreams in gray,

Their fragile echoes drifting down the hall,

And longing walks beside me night and day.

Its story ends before we grasp it all.

My heart still guards the wishes that could never stay,

And longing walks beside me night and day.
