"The Eyes That See"

"The Eyes That See"

By ElliePublished 8 months ago 1 min read

I sit at my desk, lost in thought,

eyes blurred with quiet tears.

Why is it that I can see the pain in others—

no matter who they are?

Behind every look,

I hear what their eyes won't say—

anger softened by sorrow,

love cloaked in silence,

a storm held back with a smile.

But why,

why can’t they see mine?

Then I remember him—

the one whose eyes always saw through me.

So I began to hide,

afraid to let him see too much.

Because he always knew.

Behind every word I tried to twist into strength,

he found the truth I buried.

His eyes whispered,

“Just wait… I’ll love you so deeply

you’ll forget what pain ever felt like.”

And in that gaze, I heard his promise—

“If it were in my hands,

I’d give you the world.”

“I’m building myself, piece by piece,

so when I come to you,

I come whole.”

But fate—

it keeps us apart.

And we both know,

we’d do anything

to keep tears from falling in each other’s eyes.

So he hides his sorrow from me—

and I do the same.

Because he can’t bear to see me cry.

And I can’t bear to let him.

Still, we see it.

No matter how much I smile,

he knows.

And every night, I see the emptiness in his eyes,

the flicker of a man losing hope—

but still trying.

Trying because he loves.

So purely.

So completely.

Dear God,

this test has gone on long enough.

Let it end.

Give him the peace he’s earned.

And give us the time we deserve—

without the weight of waiting.
