The Expectation

Let go

By Alessandra FelicePublished 3 years ago 1 min read

Why do we look at the light

And expect the happiness to embrace us

What if we burn

And have us flake apart

And the ash of our emotion

Float to the expectations

We want to believe in?

Who are you to make me do this

Those strings pulling on my limbs

up and down

Succumbing to you.

Do you expect me to fall on my knees and

hope that this ocean washes over me?

Swallowing me whole

To leave nothing but a memory behind

It’s the shadow that truly knows us

The darkness that feeds on the sadness

of the soul

That teaches us to feel the rage

beneath the skin

that holds the last piece of sanity together

I scream into nothingness

Wanting to be heard

I surrender to emptiness

Hoping to be carried into comfort
