What Can We Do?

I felt your fate become clear

and saw the lights getting low.

I couldn’t take all the fear

because I knew you’d have to go.

I know,

I want you too,

but what can we do?

…what can we do?

I felt the pain in your tears.

I tried to not let it show.

You wouldn’t be here in a year,

as we would both come to know.

I do know

I want you too,

but what can we do?

…what can we do?

I felt your hands, cold and frail.

I saw you stripped to skin and bone.

I watched your breath begin to fail,

as I heard your voice all alone:

“Oh, how I know,

I want you too,

but what can we do?

…what can we do?”

I felt you go beyond the veil,

and I saw your face lose its tone.

I saw you lowered in the ground

As I heard a voice not my own,

“Oh, I know,

now I see it too,

and here’s what I’ll do...”

…I’ll wait for you.”
