The Empty Page

Overcoming Writers Block

By Charlie LewisPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

"It all started when..."

No, delete that,

"He sat and stared..."

No! Start again!

No thoughts, no words, no flow,

Just an empty page.

What about 'Suddenly!'?

Yes, I'll start in the middle,

The plot twist first,

But then the words stop,

But they're there on the page,

There's no sense of a story,

But it's just an idea,

Not meant for any glory.

And I have a base now!

Something to work from,

No longer on the start line,

It's coming along,

It's far from perfect,

And needs a good polish,

But it's out on the page,

And I'm no longer sluggish.

And it's coming together,

It's flowing and growing,

Words appear on the page,

They're finally showing,

The ideas from my head,

So stuck once before,

Are on the empty page,

That isn't empty anymore.
