The Edge of Insanity

ready to lose my mind

Take me to the edge of insanity

Wipe my mind free of the hostility,

and the lies.

Take me,

where up is up and down is down,

where real is real and fake is not

the words I hear coming from my TV.

Show me that place

where love is love

and hate is a word I used to know

but can’t remember what it means.

Take me.

Let me stand on the edge of a mindless abyss

and tell me that none of this real is real.

But if it’s true

that my eyes don’t deceive me,

that my ears tell no lies,

that it simply is what it is,

then leave me in that place and let me fall,

because I’m about ready

and so, so willing

to lose my mind.

The best art taps into the thoughts and feelings of countless others, like this. ⚡💙⚡

Well-wrought, Cathy. We must learn to measure reality NOT by the terms of those who seek to control us, but by an internal locus which creates a true bridge to both deeper meaning and a higher understanding. Easier said than done, of course, but I humbly submit that your work here reflects both back to me. If consciousness truly does have a collective component, then we're already doing more than our five senses could ever fully realize.

Great poem, Cathy. I feel as though you've touched on the heart and mind of what so many are feeling, especially in view of the world's revolving chaos. Splendid work.

This felt like something that really poured out from a raw emotional core. Very relatable but an unmistakable personal ache in those final three lines.

Masterfully crafted & relatable! Fabulous work my friend!

  • Oooo, this was so deep and beautifully written! Loved your poem! Also, I was wondering about this line: "that my ears tell no lies," Did you really mean ears tell no lies or you meant hear?

2+2=5. From 1984 by George Orwell. When I read his novel as a teenager i did not believe i would live to see the day when people would parade truth about as fake news and use absolute gibberish to frame the debate of the ages. It pains me to realize that more Americans voted for gibberish and chaos and petty revenge masquerading as policy, than for a woman with a demonstrated record of accomplishment. As always, Cathy, you continue to demonstrate mastery of the poetic form even when the subject matter drives us to the brink of madness!

Headed there too lately! Great job painting a dismal picture of what bs can do to the mind.

Remarkable verisimilitude is present herein: the world is out of joint, and things are chaotic, irrational and ugly in many precincts--but your poem is a source of hope!

'...tell me that none of this real is real.' 🤯 My mind is blown at how you can hold an emotion for so long to write it with such intensity. Never breaking the rhythm or it's tone. Wait, I must go back. This line, 'where love is love and hate is a word I used to know but can’t remember what it means.' why can't we remember big beautiful words, but can remember what hate means. It's sad, and it's also not fair. Oh my. I feel this, I feel the breaking point being reached and it's so tangible. I love this for the beauty of your words, but hate the feeling it speaks of. Outstanding in everyway! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🤗💖
