The Echo of Triumph- Japanese Imperial Army Victory March

Marching Victory and the Shadows Beneath

By Jason “Jay” BenskinPublished about a year ago 1 min read

Banners waving high, boots resounding on the stone,

A procession of companions, but not alone.

Cheers booming with each step,

The city's heartbeat is beneath their feet.

--

After declaring victory and putting down their weapons, the conquered land surrendered to their leadership.

Despite the silence, shadows lingered and fear lurked in every corner.

--

They marched for honor, heads held high, while Nanking questioned why.

The brilliant and bold anthems of heroism couldn't hide the growing darkness.

--

Victory came at a high cost, both physically and financially.

Despite the celebratory atmosphere, many eyes were filled with sorrow.

--

A march to success, a terrible aftertaste.

A fading legacy.

Heroes disappear into history.

And whispers about the past.

This poem captures a very human reflection on the contradictions of war—triumph on one side, and loss on the other, without losing sight of the human emotions involved.
