The Drift

Poetry

I watched you start to slip away,

like distant tides at end of day.

And though I tried to keep you close,

I learned to breathe without your ghost.

I gave you trust, I gave you time,

and hoped you'd learn to meet the climb.

But patterns held, and words grew thin

I couldn’t pull you back again.

You were the weight I didn’t see,

the quiet ache inside of me.

And so I let you fade to mist,

an empty hand, an unclenched fist.

Some ties are meant to break and bend,

and not each loss is truly an end.

So I release you, slow and kind,

and leave your shadows far behind.
