I once loved a girl who believed giving your all meant losing it all.
I think what she was trying to say is,
Don't give your all to people who aren't willing to give theirs.
Don't offer banquets to those who offer nothing but crumbs.
Maybe that's why when I gave her my love,
She said thank you with her lips and not her heart.
Maybe that's why when she held my hand,
Her appreciation extended no further than my wrists.
So on that day,
On that bench underneath that white-sheeted sky,
When we said our last goodbye's,
I couldn't help but feel like she had all of me where I only had pieces of her.
