Spirits roam freely
Soaring high on eagle's wings
O'er Nizhoni' lands
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I spent 3 years on the Navajo reservation.
Nizhoni', is a Navajo word that means, very beautiful, very lovely. It is also the name I gave my oldest daughter.
Dine' stands for "The People" which is what they call themselves, and prefer to be called over "Navajo"
Awesome! My mom is Diné... a member of their reservation. I live in New Mexico.
This is beautiful! That’s such a beautiful name for your daughter, too.
I’ve seen that picture so much it hooks me every time. The haikus beautiful.
Gorgeous words to go with a gorgeous image. I loved the author's note as well :) I stayed on a Native American reservation in the Grand Canyon for my spring break when I went to college in Colorado. I will never forget that trip. Thanks for sharing!
very beautiful poem and that pic - wow!
