Dozen drinks deep, darling descends
Disoriented, distraught.
Darling, desist! Damnit, defend!
Demons do darken drunken dens,
Devouring dreams, delivering deadends…
Darling downs dredged-up draughts.
Dozen drinks deep, darling descends
Disoriented, distraught.

Very well done on a so often tragic topic. I can "see" the person sitting in a darkened bar groundhog daying their life away. Excellent piece.
“dozen drinks deep” — ok, my first instinct was to laugh, and reminisce on my days of being white(ish) girl wasted. Then I saw it was tagged sad poetry and felt bad for laughing about alcohol abuse. But I definitely when through my period of that, and I guess humor is part of my ability to persevere.
"de end"! Great!
I really love what you've done with this, Morgana! The repetition gives it an extra punch...like someone going through the same cycle each time they drink to excess. As someone whose dad was an alcoholic...I can relate.
letter "D" throughout the poem creates a rhythmic effect and emphasizes the overall mood.
"Devouring dreams, delivering deadends" Such a tragically true statement! Loved this!
Damn... Direct, deep...
