The Day’s Final Kiss

Written for The Last Flame

By SkyPublished 29 days ago Updated 29 days ago 1 min read
The photo taken over a year ago that inspired this poem

The day’s final goodbye

paints the sky red

or orange, depending on its mood

sometimes pink,

as seen in the cotton candy sky

When the sky is set aflame,

you stop and take it all in,

absorbed in its glory

the world shifts for a sec,

and suddenly you are back to

the moments that were branded into you

Snap

Your gaze meets theirs,

eyes glazed with desire,

sparking passion

for the one you never noticed

Crackle

neither of you can admit

how easily pride gives away

when the body decides

Pop

you haven’t thought about them

in a while

you scan the crowd at the event

your gaze meets theirs

Some things are born to be rekindled.

Vanishing the last bit of fire from the sky,

dusk falls into place

embers of starlight glow across the sky

Some things are born to be rekindled.

My work is messy in the way that English class was always the hardest. I still get my there’s confused & besides a haiku I barely know anything about true poem formatting but I do know that writing them brings me joy & a creative outlet!
